This is a question that anyone who wants to start an online business asks themselves. This can be mind boggling and even stop you in your tracks. A lot of people do not believe that they possess any skill.
Most business advisers or consultants will ask you to start a business around your hobbies or what you know how to do best. Whether you realize or not, you possess so many skills that you can use to create some income for yourself.
A quick way of doing this is to have a quick skills audit. You can start by listing everything you know how to do and then pick up a few.
Your list for example will be something like this: –

- Cook _ You can share with people information about what you know how to cook best, and you can also make some recipes and sell or do an online course
- Clean – If you are good at cleaning, and perhaps you see when other people have not cleaned properly, perhaps you can do something about how to clean properly
- Write- if you can write, you could be able to write reports, novels, short guides etc.
- Read – You can read like doing voice over or proofread
- Entertain – You can create some online entertainment
- Advise – Depending on the advice you are good at; you can set up a business where you offer advice in specific areas
- Teach – Teaching has got no limits – You can teach students how to study, you can write a course, you can write study guides, you can write books etc.
- Sell – If you are the kind of person who can convince people to buy stuff, you can start advising your customers on how to sell and better still you can promote other people’s stuff online and get paid for doing that
- Speak in front of people – You can be a master of ceremony in events. You can do all the work online and just go to the events at the time you are required.
- Help/counsel – you can counsel people online or physically. Still, most of the work can be done online
- Use computer – If you can use a computer, you are a step ahead, you will then be able to do your work without needing help
- Use mobile phone – Mobile phones make everything easy as they perform even tasks that you would have needed a computer in the past.
- Use internet – We all love it and spend a lot of time on social media. We can just split our time and do some business
- Grow food/plants/flowers – If you are farmer or grow flowers, chances are that you have so many lessons along the way which you can teach others as well.
- Repair things – You can teach people how to repair things (DIY) online
- Account – You can teach people online how to keep their books or you can help them keep their books especially small businesses which cannot employ an accountant
- Coach – You can start a business as a coach for young people, adults, players, businesses or any other thing or field you are good at
- Mentor – You can combine mentoring with coaching.
This list is not by any means exhaustive, but you can be amazed at how many skills you possess. We have not even touched on niches that are forever best sellers.
Once you know what you can do or what you enjoy, it is then easy to find some activities that you can do around your hobby.
You can then develop a course, write an eBook or any service that can help you share your skills with the world.
